Latin Dance - Paso Doble

  • The Paso Doble is a sporty Latin dance performed around the floor.

  • The steps in the Paso Doble are initiated from the heel, and the movements from step to step are danced without hip action.

  • Call for the First Step: Stamping the ground for the first step – the man with his right foot, the woman with her left foot, both in place. The foot should not be lifted too high.

HistoryKameraperspektiven_0170.jpeg

  • Originating in 19th-century Spain, the Paso Doble is one of the five Latin dances in the World Dance Program.

  • It has been part of the competitive dance program since 1945. Paso Doble is not widely known in public. Literally translated, it means "double step."

  • It is danced in 2/4 time at a tempo of 58-62 bars (166-124 bpm) – tournament tempo is 62 bars.

  • A characteristic feature of the Paso Doble is a raised, proud posture – an interpretation of bullfighting.
