Latin Dance - Jive
The Jive, also called Triple Step, is a Latin dance as well as a swing dance, and its structure originates from Lindy Hop.
Unlike Lindy Hop, Jive features more hip action, reflecting its Latin character, and the feet are lifted more.
When performing the transition steps, which are danced in a short/long/short/long rhythm, always remember to initiate them from above with knee action (lifting the knee) onto the balls of the feet.
History
Originating in the USA, Jive is a Latin partner dance. The Jive arrived in Europe in 1940 and has been very popular ever since.
Since 1968, the Jive has been a competitive ballroom dance.
In 1976, it was included in the World Dance Program.
It is danced in 4/4 time at a tempo of 32-44 bars (128-176 bpm).
The Jive is characterized by open figures with kicks and twists.
It is closely related to Boogie-Woogie and Rock 'n' Roll.
