Dance with a humanoid robot
From the Unreal to Tangible Reality
In the past, it was always possible to control characters (avatars) within a virtual environment through the use of specialized animation softwareโalbeit with a significant amount of manual effort, as every movement sequence had to be animated by hand.
Motion capture technology offers a substantial improvement in this regard, allowing human movement data to be captured directly via cameras or a specialized suit. In these instances, the result isโfor exampleโan FBX file, which can then be mapped onto virtual avatars using appropriate animation softwareโa process known as "retargeting."
Thanks to continuous advancements in AI and robotics, it is now also possible to transfer these captured movement sequences onto humanoid robots โthat is, human-like robotsโvia dedicated interfaces.
Thus, the virtual world becomes real once again.
